When planning for an MVHR system, we always aim to get the intake and exhaust ducts as short as possible, why i hear you ask? The below extract from PHPP shows the drop in efficiency when intake and exhaust ducts increase in length. Left picture is nice short runs <1.5m in length, Right picture is the same job with 2.5m duct runs on the intake and exhaust and the drop in efficiency more than doubles. So if you want to get the most out of the units heat recovery efficiency, a careful considered design is key 😊 #passivhaus #MVHR #design

The side of our MVHR design many don't see. When designing an MVHR system, its not just a question of how to fit it into the building. The performance of the ducting system is essential to guarantee performance. If the extract valve in a Bathroom has a high damping pressure it will be too far closed, it will then become blocked with wet dust and towel lint. If this happens in a Bedroom, the valve will become audible and a draft would be created. If the damping pressure in a Bedroom is too low, the air flow required in that space will not be achievable resulting in air quality issues and health risks to the occupants. #doitrightfirsttime #designmatters
